FAQ's
Preparation
Preparing for your
photography session
Determine the purpose of the shoot.
What type of images are you requiring? Do you have any examples of similar images?
Are there specific shots required? Think about everyone involved in the project. What you need may differ from other departments or even your PR agency.
Will the photos be used for in-house corporate documents?
Are they to be used for marketing? Would it be appropriate to use them on the company website or in the annual report? Have a clear purpose in mind to ensure that the images meet the need of their intended use.
Outlining the project’s key aims will help a photographer capture each element and tying it together to create a consistent set of images.
Planning
- Who invited for the photo session?
- Allow a reasonable amount of time in your timetable for each subject that you would like photographed.
- Before your shoot, you must make sure that everyone you have invited is aware of and comfortable.
- If your photographer will be taking pictures at the event, are there any key protagonists that they should know?
Choose a location
Where is the shoot taking place?
It can be helpful to give the photographer some images of all of the locations available for the shoot in advance – mobile phone snaps are perfect for this.
Outfit(s)
It would be best if you considered the industry you are working in to help you make your clothing selections.
Keep in mind that a corporate headshot should have a different feel and appearance than a modeling headshot, and you need to make your clothing choices accordingly.
It is also important comfortable, fits with your personality, and makes you feel confident!
Portraits Session
If you would like portraits beyond tight headshots,
it is also better to use similar tones on your top and bottom.
Lighter colors often make people look more significant, so a light color on top with dark trousers will make you’re top look more extensive (and vice versa).
Using similar tones for your top and bottom will ensure one doesn’t appear more extensive than the other.
And similarly, it will also be wise to wear a top with sleeves at least to the elbow –
because uncovered arms often have more skin area than faces; therefore, it might divert attention.
Colors | Jewelry
Stay away from patterns on the fabric in terms of color because the designs can detract from your face.
So, don’t choose a shirt with floral print, checkers, polka dots, stripes, or any other type of pattern on the fabric.
These patterns will make the photo too “busy,” and they can be very distracting. As a general rule, keep designs (and certainly logos) to a minimum.
For the same reason, avoid Jewelry and accessories unless you think they are vital in conveying your personality
Stick with darker colors instead of lighter colors, because the darker or mid-tone colors tend to emphasize your eyes and smile, instead of the clothing.
Always avoid lighter shades that are too similar to your skin tone, because they can make you appear washed out.
Glasses
If you wear glasses during the shoot, the photographer will try to minimize the reflections, but these are impossible to avoid altogether.
So while they will still be present for the proofing stage, we will remove them at the final step for any high-resolution images you select (this takes quite a bit of intricate post-production work).
Occasionally, to aid in this process, we may take a few photos of you without your glasses.
Team Photography Session
Determine the space or size of the team.
Establish how many people are in the team shot
Your photo shoot can take place at your workplace, at an event.
As such, as a group, you should decide which locations you’d prefer, and space which allows everyone in the photographs.
Coordinate your outfits
At the very least, the style of your outfits should match each other.
You don’t want to come in dressed in business casual if your co-workers are in formal attire.
As such, plan for what kind of look you all enjoy. First, figure out the style you want (business casual, legal, etc.), then determine what type of colors you want to incorporate.
You can either wear complementing colors or matching colors—it all depends on your specific.
Branding
Group photos are all about telling a story about your business or team.
What you wear, how you pose, and where you take the picture all play into the kind of information you want to tell and the kind of characteristics you want to portray.
Therefore, you and your team should think carefully about how you want your photo to look.
Once you have something in mind, figuring out outfits, locations, and the like will be much easier.
